Food and Drink

This Modern Apprenticeship equips employees in food and drink operations with the skills and knowledge they need. It’s suitable for those with little or no experience in the sector, and also for upskilling existing employees.

Your employee will study for a Modern Apprenticeship at SCQF Level 5 or 6.

Each apprentice will choose a 'route' which they study in depth. They'll also be expected to complete 2 short courses, which should be a minimum of 10 learning hours each.

Alternatively, your apprentices could complete a joint qualification in Food and Drink Operations (Engineering Maintenance) SCQF Level 6, and Performing Engineering Operations SCQF Level 5. For this route, they must also complete a qualification in an engineering-related subject at SCQF Level 5, Level 6 or Level 7.

  • What apprentices do

    Training arrangements vary depending on the employer and apprenticeship programme and may include day release to college (for example, one day per week or block-release attendance). The level of training, mentoring and workplace support will differ between employers, but all apprentices benefit from hands-on experience, guidance from experienced professionals, and opportunities to develop their technical and professional skills.

    Apprenticeships are open to people of all ages and backgrounds, whether they are starting their career, looking to upskill, or changing direction professionally. Apprentices develop their skills and knowledge through a combination of workplace experience and formal training, meaning prior experience levels can vary. When recruiting an apprentice, employers can choose candidates whose qualities, potential and career aspirations best match the needs of their business, while supporting them to learn and grow on the job.
