Hair professionals play an important role in our health and wellbeing by helping us to look and feel at our best. It's an exciting industry to work in and to be successful you need to be caring, creative, hard-working, a team player and enjoy working with people. If you're interested in a career in hairdressing, this course is a great place to start.
Entry Requirements
To join the Introduction to Hairdressing Skills course (Level 4) you'll need:
- A genuine interest in hair.
- Four National 3s or equivalent qualifications at SCQF Level 3 or equivalent.
- Aged 16 or over (if you are under 16, with appropriate permissions, we’ll consider you for a place).
If you don't have formal qualifications but have life experience, we'll also consider you for a place, so please do apply.
Course Content
During this course, you may have the opportunity to study:
- Shampooing, conditioning, scalp massage, drying, and styling techniques, including plaits and twists general salon duties and assistance in higher-level salon classes.
- Participation in competitions fundraising events for charity by offering services such as plaits and curling.
- Skill development for employment, including communication and teamwork.
Careers and Further Study
Upon successfully completing this course, you may have the opportunity to progress to the Professional Hairdressing Techniques course starting in January. This course offers you a strong foundation in basic hairdressing, enhancing your self-confidence, employability, and core skills. Due to the rapid changes in the hairdressing industry, we aim to ensure your course aligns with current skills and knowledge required for positive progression, so some course content may change.
