Entry Requirements

Ideally you will have relevant knowledge, skills and understanding. This may be demonstrated by one or more of the following:

  • Health and Social Care course at SCQF level 5
  • a relevant NQ course or units at SCQF level 5
  • National 5 English or Communication at SCQF level 5
  •  life experience and the ability to work at SCQF level 6

You will also need:

  • A real interest in working with people 
  • A satisfactory reference if you don’t have formal qualifications but have relevant life or volunteering experience.
  • An interview with us during which you will complete a short written activity
  • Applicants whose first language is not English should have a minimum SQA ESOL National 5 or equivalent

You should be aware that you will be asked to join the Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme on all care courses at level 6 or above and be occupationally fit for practice.

Course Content

  •  You will develop the knowledge and practical skills to work with people in care, including safe practice, person centred care and care values.
  • You will attend college two days a week and a work experience placement one day a week.
  • You will complete work based SVQ units relating to health and safety and communication
  • A variety of teaching and learning methods will keep you interested and motivated
