On Saturday 21 June 2025, Ayrshire College’s Kilmarnock Campus became a vibrant hub of culture, connection, and celebration as it hosted the Pan-Ayrshire Multicultural Festival – an event of Refugee Festival Scotland 2025.
Themed “Vibrant, Connected, Thriving”, the festival brought together residents, refugees, and local organisations in a powerful demonstration of community spirit and partnership. Co-created by the Scottish Refugee Council, Police Scotland, and Ayrshire College with support from local authorities and grassroots groups including Rapid Relief Team, Above Adventure and the Refugee Resettlement Team at East Ayrshire Council.
“We were delighted to partner with Ayrshire College and Police Scotland for the Pan-Ayrshire Multicultural Festival on Saturday. We wanted to create a space where people from all backgrounds could come together, connect, and feel a sense of belonging. It was more than just an event—it was a celebration of the diverse hopes, stories, food and cultures that strengthen our communities.” said Dumie Matsebanane of the Scottish Refugee Council.
The event also aimed to build trust between refugee communities and emergency services. CS Suzanne Chow, Divisional Commander of Police Scotland commented, “We were proud to be part of this celebration. Events like this help build understanding and highlight the support officers provide for local communities.”
Ayrshire College played a leading role in the festival, not only as host but as a committed partner in building inclusive, community-driven experiences. “We believe in the power of education to transform lives and communities. This festival reflects our commitment to inclusion, equity, and working hand-in-hand with partners to build a more connected and compassionate Ayrshire.”
The Pan-Ayrshire Multicultural Festival stands as a testament to what’s possible when institutions and communities work together to create welcoming, equitable spaces for all.
